ACTIVITIES
Ministry of human and minority rights has registered Association of social workers of Serbia at 13th June 2005. in register of Citizen associations, social and political organizations as Association of citizens No. 9022, with official adress in Belgrade, Marije Bursac Street number 49, without rights to use space.
After registration, intensive activities started - 3 regular Assemblies, 5 meetings of Executive board and 2 meetings of Advisory board. Meetings and other activities were held with support and understanding of our institutions (Home in Sremcica, Center for elderly persons, Centres for social work Zvezdara and Savski Venac) as well with support of Faculty of political sciences, department of social work and social policy.
Activities of Association in previous period were directed to extending membership, forming boards and bodies of organization, making plans and programmes of work. Membership in Association is based on free will, but yet the number of members is over half of currently employed social workers and is on constant raise.
Number of members, as well as enthusiasm expressed in work so far has strenghten our idea to form a well organized professional organization capable of giving significant contribution to development and advancement of social care and overall development of Republic Of Serbia, to protect our clients from incompetent practice, as well as to protect professional interests of its members.
In a sequence of important decisions made at the meetings of Association bodies, specialy significant is a Decision of a need to make a proposal of Law on social council (Law which would regulate practice of social work) initated at Assambly of Association in Sremcica Home 20.10.2005.
At third regular Assambly held at 08.12.2005. in Elderly home in Belgrade, for this decision voted all 220 members of Assambly.
Plan of our activities in forthcoming period is very ambitios and demands office space and significant financial resources. Currently association has no office space needed to continue worl, and beside membership fees which have been 39.000,00 din in 2006. has no other financial resources. This summ will be sued to print magazine "Social policy and social work" and for preparations of forth regular Assambly of meeting.
Early october 2006. we have adressed Ministry of work, labor and social policy, to agree on returning the office space and asking for their support in realization of decisions, but it was never answered.
Currently revitalized magazine of Association is being prepared as well as preparations for forth Assambly is ongoing (it will be elective as well as it will have an professional topic) to be held in September 2007.
Beside this, we have started activities on becoming member of International federation of social workers, which requires, among other propositions, to have a register of all employed social workers.
